Branding and Modernization- How Do They Go Together?

Updated: Mar 13, 2023

Branding a company takes an ample amount of time and effort, and it is vital to make sure your branding is going to be effective. The last thing you want to do is brand a company that's not getting any clicks or any traffic.

Okay, I take that back… Really the last thing your want to do is brand a company in a way that is completely outdated.

We are trying to draw in business here, not Moses!

Branding as we know it is on a downward trend. So how do you stay on top of the future of branding?

What Is Branding?

Before we can lock down the future of branding, having a grasp on the concept of branding overall is pretty important.

Branding essentially is the tools and tactics used to show off who you are as a brand and your brand's mission. Branding allows a customer to understand and relate to you as a company; without effective branding, customers may be less inclined to work with you.

There are many ways to brand, but the overall appeal plays a huge part in the success of your branding project. Some things to consider when branding are:

  • Is my logo easily identifiable?

  • Are my colors vibrant? Do they stand out?

  • Does my name alone entice people?

  • What do others presume my company's identity is based on my branding?

Branding as a whole should encompass your brand's identity. There should be a vibe, a solidified identity, and a culture surrounding your brand.

Branding as it has always been known

Branding has been around since the beginning of time. Whether it be a country flag, a car dealer's mission statement, or even the random model giving a thumbs up to show he likes a certain insurance company.

Many more outdated companies have very simple, very subtle branding. While they may have worked 30 years ago, times are changing, and so is branding.

A tendency when company branding is to put very little emphasis on the vibe and culture of a brand. The front page of a website may just be “The best cars in America, call 1-800-cars to buy one now”. This branding approach is very straight to the point and not nearly as effective in 2023.

How Do I Keep My Branding Up To Date?

So you want to keep your branding up to date with younger generations and move into the future of branding? What now?

One of the most important aspects of keeping your branding up to date and continuing to draw in newer generations is the entertainment side of branding.

Generation Z is a very visual generation with all the time they spend on social media, and technology branding that can be pushed and appealed to in a similar fashion is going to strike big with younger individuals. Eye-catching, interactive, trendy branding is going to get way more recognition from the future of the world than colorless, plain branding will. Because of the media and entertainment pushed to generation z, appeals to humor work quite well in trying to resonate with said audience.

Another aspect of branding to focus on is the set of values commonly seen in younger generations. You wouldn't want to brand a “Technology less work environment” when trying to gain young clients and customers. While TikTok and Instagram may not have been the way to brand 20 years ago, they certainly play a role in branding today. Use that to your advantage!

Branding Tips + Tricks

I am not here to say branding in the future is going to be all sunshine and rainbows, but with some simple guidelines, you can be sure to keep the market on its toes and bring in any customer that is old enough to have a phone.

When branding to future generations, be sure to:

  • Make it interactive

  • Use bright colors

  • Be eye-catching

  • Brand the culture you are trying to appeal to

The moral of the story is that in order to keep your branding up to date, you have to be up to date. Find out what's cool, what’s trendy, and what works, and run with it. Don’t be afraid to be a little out there and look a little stupid to the older generations; the future of the world is in the hands of the young generations, so give them what they want!
